My eldest daughter attends Richard Wakefield School, soon to be joined by her younger sister.  I was delighted to be elected as parent governor in 2014 to work alongside other governors and school staff.

My background involves nearly 10 years of senior management experience within Finance, Commercial and Property environments and I was keen to use my skillset to support the school in its development.

Over the last 2 years I have learned a lot and have enjoyed supporting the school to move from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’.

I believe the school is now in a great place to continue to develop and deliver a well rounded, excellent experience for our children.

Both of my children attended Richard Wakefield School from Reception to Y6. I was elected as a parent governor almost 8 years ago, as I wanted to contribute to the development of the school and felt that my experience in education would be useful.

I have really enjoyed being part of our journey from Satisfactory/Requires Improvement to Good, which has seen many challenges but has ultimately resulted in a much higher standard of education for the children of Tutbury.

I believe that our school will continue to improve and develop as an integral part of our community.

I was elected as parent governor in November 2013. In 2014 I was assigned the role Governor for Pupil Premium and Sports Premium.

Having gained a Mathematics degree from Liverpool University I went on to become a Finance Director working within a small leadership team and have been a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants for over 20 years. I bring to our school my financial and commercial skills and greatly enjoy seeing the children and school develop and improve.

In my spare time I enjoy cycling and am a keen supporter of Burton Albion. I have been living in Tutbury since 2004 - being born in Bury combined with my surname it seemed an obvious place to live!

The Reverend Patricia Ann Short BA (Hons), AKC

I have recently been appointed by the Diocese of Lichfield as an Ex Officio Foundation Governor.   My career was in education, teaching mainly English and RE and culminating with the headship of a city comprehensive school in Nottingham, followed by secondment to the team which established teacher appraisal in Nottinghamshire.  I then worked as an independent consultant and trainer in educational management and communication skills.

I was a vicar’s wife for over  thirty years, becoming my husband’s carer until his death in 1997 and working as a Reader in parishes and then in hospital chaplaincy.  I was ordained to continue work as a chaplain in 2000 at the Derby Acute Hospitals, then moved back into parish ministry in the Ashbourne group of parishes in 2010 as Associate Priest where I was a Foundation Governor at St Oswald’s Church of England Infant School.  I now work as an Associate Minister in Tutbury, Rolleston and Anslow.

I have a son, daughter-in- law and grandson.  I love cooking and offering hospitality.  I enjoy painting, gardening, the theatre and a range of crafts.

As a person I think I am pro-active and energetic.  I love meeting people and listening to them.  I enjoy challenges, trying to solve problems and helping other people to find ways to deal with theirs.  I believe that laughter is a vital part of life.

I hope that as a Governor I will be able to bring my knowledge and skills to benefit the children, staff and parents of the school.

My Mum, myself plus two brothers and my two daughters have attended Richard Wakefield School.

I originally took on the role of Foundation Governor as a temporary role to cover for Rev. Ganz on his retirement.  I enjoyed the challenge more than I’d expected and when offered a permanent place decided to take it.  I have seen the role change a lot in my time, with more and more responsibility being put onto the Governors, the rewards are great though and I have really enjoyed being part of our journey from Satisfactory/Requires Improvement to Good.  Next we need to make sure we are ready for the SIAMS inspection.

I have been helping to run our Christian Club on Monday lunchtimes for many years now, and have been part of raising the profile of our Christian ethos in the school.  I am at present assistant church warden at St Mary’s and help plan our more relaxed services on Sunday afternoons, i.e. Light Service, Christingle, Palm Sunday and Open Gardens.

Workwise, I left school to undertake an electrical apprenticeship, gaining my HNC in electrical and electronics.  For more than 20 years I had the role of PCB Designer in an engineering department that designed control and communications equipment.  I became interested in complimentary therapies in the early 90’s and after completing courses in reflexology and massage, made the move to being a self employed therapist.

Cathy Wright BSc (Hons)

Having graduated with a degree in physics, I started my working life within IT and ultimately managing a team.  After 8 years and the birth of my eldest child, my husband and I decided to leave our 9 to 5 jobs and relocate from Liverpool to Tutbury and set up a baby swimming company.  9 years later and with the addition of 2 more children, we now teacher circa 1000 babies a week to swim.

With 3 children at the school, I hope I am in touch with school life and the challenges this brings to the children, parents and staff.  Also, with my business experience and love of numbers, I hope that I can support and aid the school with decision making and strategy.

When a vacancy arose for a Foundation Governor I was pleased to join the Governing Body.  At that time I was one of the Church Wardens at the Priory Church of St Mary.  I am retired, live in Tutbury and continue to play an active part in the life of the church in the position of Honorary Treasurer.  I knew something of school routines as I was a school secretary for more years than I care to remember.  During the time I have been on the Governing Body the school has maintained and developed a closer link with the church and we have been delighted that the children hold their termly services at the church.  They have also contributed to some of the major services.  The active role the young people played at the Remembrance Day service was so good to see.  At Christmas it is lovely to see the angels tripping up the aisle!

I have just been asked to serve a further four years and I hope that during this time I shall be able to contribute to the life and success of our school.

Both my children run into school every morning happy to be there, and for me it’s important that this continues by providing good quality teaching and a nurturing environment where children get the chance to become the best that they can be.

I have a background working in very varied educational settings and hope that this enables me to have a good understanding of some of the issues faced by schools.  This in turn will allow me to help our school continue to strive for continuing high standards.
